Craig Sams & Josephine Fairley – co-founder of Green and Blacks
Honorary Doctor of Business Administration (Hon DBA)

Jo Fairley and Craig Sams received honorary degrees from Kingston University in early 2006.After graduating with a BSc Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, American-born Craig Sams moved to London in 1966 and founded organic food company Whole Earth Foods in partnership with his brother Gregory. It expanded from a macrobiotic restaurant – Seed – into retail, wholesaling and manufacturing. He founded organic and fair-trade chocolate company Green & Black’s, with his wife Josephine Fairley in 1991. They sold the brand to Cadbury in 2005. He is now President of Green& Black’s Ltd.

He is the author of four books about organic food, including Sweet Dreams: The Story of Green & Blacks which he co-authored with Josephine Fairley.

Josephine Fairley co-founded the pioneering organic and fair-trade chocolate company Green & Black’s with her husband Craig Sams in 1991. In 2005, the brand was sold to Cadbury’s, but Josephine Fairley remains in an international ambassadorial role.

Professor Vladimir Mau – Rector of the Academy of National Economy in Moscow

Since 1991 Vladimir Mau has been involved in the development and implementation of economic reforms in Russia. Between 1991 and 1993, he was adviser to the Acting Chairman of the Russian Federation Government and from 1993 to 1997, was Deputy Director of the Institute for Economy in Transition before moving on to become Director of the Working Centre for Economic Reforms under the Russian Federation Government until 2002 when he became Rector of the Academy of National Economy.

Between 1981 and 1990, he was a research fellow at the Institute of Economics USSR Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Economic Policy.

He is a member of the Presidential Council on Science, Technology and Education; Management Board Member, Institute of Contemporary Development; and a member of the editorial boards of the journals Voprosy Ekonomiki  (Problems of Economics), Rossiia v globalnoi politike (Russia in Global Affairs), Vestnik Evropy (The Herald of Europe), and Journal of Economic Transition (RAND). He is editor-in-chief of the journal Ekonomicheskaya politika (Economic Policy) jointly published by the Academy of National Economy, Institute for the Economy in Transition, and the World Bank.

He graduated from Plekhanov Institute of National Economy in 1981, received a Doctor of Economic Sciences in 1993 (Russia) and PhD in Applied Economic Science from France in 1999. He became a professor in 1996. 

Kyriakos Filippou – CEO FAGE Group of Companies
Honorary Doctor of Business Administration (Hon DBA)

Kyriakos Filippou is one of two sons of the founder of FAGE, the makers of Total Greek Yoghurt. He joined the family business with his brother Ioannis, in the 1950s. Together they took the business from a small dairy shop in Athens to yoghurt and pastry producing factory. Today FAGE is Greece’s leading yoghurt-making company, operating three production facilities in Greece, producing milk, yoghurt and cheese products.
