The Kingston area
Introduction to Kingston upon Thames
Kingston upon Thames is a beautiful place to study, situated just outside central London and combining the wide open spaces of the countryside with the ample amenities of a major town. Kingston is situated next to the River Thames and is a town steeped in history. One of only three Royal Boroughs, Kingston has a rich Anglo-Saxon history and is just across the river from Hampton Court Palace, home to Henry VIII.
The centre of the town is a shoppers' paradise with the vibrant Bentall Centre offering many well-known high street shops, the daily Ancient Market, weekly and monthly specialist markets and many specialist shops. There are also plenty of top-quality cafes, wine bars, restaurants and pubs to relax in after a hard study session. Kingston is also home to the Rose Theatre with its Elizabethan-inspired stage and auditorium which regularly attracts some of the biggest stars in world theatre.
Our safe and green Kingston Hill campus is just outside of the main town centre, within easy walking distance of Richmond Park – a national nature reserve and site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and the largest of London’s Royal Parks; and with central London only 25 minutes away by train, you don’t have far to travel to access its world-renowned thriving business and cultural centre.
