General Management

Our general management postgraduate courses are designed to teach you all the core skill sets needed to be a manager in today's environment. You will learn and enhance your existing skills in all areas of management from finance to marketing.

The core skills you learn can help drive your career into whichever industry sector you are interested in, as the broad knowledge you gain will give you the transferable skills to take into a variety of job roles. Plus the option of elective modules on many courses also gives you the opportunity to focus and further your skills into the areas of management that interest you most.

  • International Business Management MSc


    Start Dates:
    January (International Business Management only) and September
    Mode of Delivery: Full-time

    Open to applicants with a degree in any discipline, this programme will equip you with the skills and management knowledge required of today's managers. It builds on the theory and practical application of key business functions to help you develop a sound understanding of the field of global business. Strategic and operational perspectives are addressed, with an emphasis on the practical skills essential for the modern international business manager.

    What will you study?

    After an induction programme introducing you to the Business School and the expectations and ethos of the course, you will go on to study the underpinning elements of business management from a national and international context. The business-related areas comprise information management, operations management, marketing, financial resources management, and the management of people and organisations. These areas will be covered in depth to include areas of consultancy, analysis and research skills.

    The second stage of the course includes core work on strategy and research together with a wide range of options covering international business areas and a practical consultancy project. This gives you the opportunity to work for an external client organisation for a period of five to six weeks, enabling you to put your business knowledge and skills into practice with a real company. In addition, your dissertation enables you to research a specific area of interest in depth.

  • International Business Management with Entrepreneurship MSc

    This programme offers opportunities for applicants particularly interested in entrepreneurship – the activity and knowledge needed to identify and develop ideas into viable new enterprises or into innovations in existing organisations. Entrepreneurship is both a possible career path for those who want to establish something of their own, and a way of behaving within organisations.

    Entrepreneurship is a minor field offered in combination with the International Business Management MSc. This course provides the general management knowledge and skills needed by today's managers operating in an international context, and is open to applicants with a degree in any discipline.

    The Entrepreneurship specialism will teach you a wide range of skills including developing new products and ideas, business processes to start a new venture and evaluating a new business.

    Mode of Delivery: Full-time

    With finance is a minor field offered in combination with the International Business Management MSc. It takes the student from first principles of finance and financial management to more complex finance theories and applications.

    Students will appraise individual projects and will evaluate the strategic financial direction and control of the organisation as a whole. The financial aspects of individual projects includes basic techniques for decision making, planning and monitoring performance of individual projects. Valuation of assets, liabilities, equity and other securities both individually and collectively are covered. The measurement and management of risk is incorporated.

    With marketing is a minor field offered in combination with the International Business Management MSc.

    Students will learn how marketing management can be structured/modified to develop business beyond historic country and other operating boundaries. They will look at buyer behaviour and examine the latest in marketing theory and practise.

The business-related areas comprise information management, operations management, marketing, financial resources management, and the management of people and organisations. These areas will be covered in depth to include areas of consultancy, analysis and research skills.

  • International Business Management with Project Management MSc

    The aim of this programme is to provide the general management knowledge and skills needed by today’s managers operating in an international context, and in particular help students develop awareness and understanding in the planning, organising, executing and evaluating of projects. Applicants will also learn about the alignment between portfolio project management and enterprise strategy as well as balancing priorities between different projects to achieve maximum added value for the organisation. 

    Project Management is a minor field offered in combination with the International Business Management MSc. This builds on the theory and practical application of key business functions to help you develop a sound understanding of the field of global business and is open to applicants with a degree in any discipline. 

    The Project Management specialism will teach you key skills including project planning and monitoring, strategic management, agreeing and setting realistic targets plus the ability to self-analyse performance and progress and respond to feedback. 

    What will you study?

    The International Business Management MSc offers the underpinning elements of business management from a national and international context. The business-related areas comprise information management, operations management, marketing, financial resources management, and the management of people and organisations. These areas will be covered in depth to include areas of consultancy, analysis and research skills. The project management areas include modules in project management and strategic project management.

  • International Supply Chain and Logistics Management MSc

    Mode of Delivery: Full-time

    Students on this International Supply Chain and Logistics Management MSc course are a chosen mix of people from the UK, mainland Europe and the rest of the world. Strategic and operational perspectives are addressed.

    There is an emphasis on the practical skills essential for the modern international business manager specialising in supply chain and logistics management. The dissertation provides the opportunity for an enhanced focus on these specific aspects of international business.

    A major strength of the programme is the Consultancy Project, which provides you with the chance to put the theory learnt on the course into practice through a real-life consultancy project for a client company.

  • Management Studies MA

    Mode of Delivery: Part-Time

    Kingston's Management Studies MA course is suitable for professionals working in all sectors of the economy, whether you are in local government, healthcare or private-sector companies, such as retail, IT or finance. It will provide you with the skills and qualities that you need to become an effective manager.

    This course is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Successful graduates are eligible for Associate Membership of the CMI and you will have the chance to upgrade to full Member status depending on your management experience.

    What you will study?

    After an induction programme introducing you to the Business School and the expectations and ethos of the course, you will go on to study modules that cover the broader disciplines of management and some more-focused topics. Unlike our Management Studies PgDip/MA top-up programme, you sign up for the MA qualification from the start, which means that your studies are more continuous.

    You will develop your evaluation and analytical skills, focusing on the application of management techniques to your job. You will gain a strategic and holistic perspective of your organisation that is critical to its success in today's competitive business environment. You will also have the opportunity to specialise by choosing certain option modules.

  • Management Studies PgDip/MA top-up


    Start Dates:
    February and September
    Mode of Delivery: Part-Time

    Kingston's Diploma in Management Studies (DMS) course is suitable for professionals working in all sectors of the economy, whether you are in local government or healthcare, or in private-sector companies such as retail, IT or finance. It will provide you with the skills and qualities that are essential to become an effective manager. Once you have successfully completed the diploma you can undertake a further year's study to top up your qualification to masters level.

    This course is recognised by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Successful graduates are eligible for Associate Membership of the CMI and you will have the chance to upgrade to full member status depending on your management experience.

You will develop your evaluation and analytical skills and focus on the application of management techniques to your job. You will gain a strategic and holistic perspective of your organisation that is critical to its success in today's competitive business environment. You will also have the opportunity to specialise by choosing certain option modules.

    If you decide to top up your diploma qualification to masters level, you will undertake the Research Methods and dissertation module, which will prepare you for the production and submission of your dissertation.
