Mike Adamson, Managing Director, Operations at British Red Cross discusses Strategy development and decision making in the not for profit sector - from woolly jumpers to social return on investment in the latest Strategy into Practice seminar.
Key themes of the seminar will include:
- the voluntary sector as a major player
- what's the same as other sectors, what's different, where do we fit
- experiences of strategy development
- experiences of strategic decision making and the risks of drift
- the future for the sector - roles and accountabilities
As managing director of operations, Mike co-ordinates the British Red Cross' UK and international programmes, overseeing a unified approach to all our operations. Mike took on this new role in October 2010, but he had previously held several other positions in the organisation between 1992 and 2003, including head of international programme development, director for the London and south-east region, and director of strategy, planning and information systems.
In his years away from the organisation, Mike worked for the National Health Service as director of commissioning and primary care at the Cotswold and Vale Primary Care Trust in Gloucestershire, and spent five years as managing director for services at the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID).
Mike is also a board member of both a regional drug and alcohol charity (Nelson Trust) and the national Compact Voice. Mike lives in Gloucestershire with his wife Lorna and two daughters Eleanor (14) and Sophie (12). In his spare time he likes to run, cycle and read. He is also a founding member of his local film club.
