The rapidly changing business environment makes managing risk in organisational decision-making of critical importance. In this lecture, Dr Sunitha Narendran will discuss insights from research on individual differences in risk related decision-making, and consider the implications for management practice. Sir Roderic Lyne, formerly UK ambassador to Russia and currently Deputy Chairman of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, will share his extensive experience of these issues.

Speaker Bio

Sir Roderic Lane

Sir Roderic has had a long and distinguished career in the British Diplomatic Service, working there from 1970 to 2004. He was British Ambassador to the Russian Federation from 2000 to 2004; UK Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organisation, the UN and other international organisations from 1997 to 2000; and Private Secretary to the Prime Minister for foreign affairs, defence and Northern Ireland from 1993 to 1996.

Sir Roderic is currently chair of Kingston University Board of Governors and Deputy Chairman of the Royal Institute of International Affairs. He has been a Member of the Iraq Inquiry Committee since 2009 and was appointed to the Privy Council in the same year.

He also works as a Senior Adviser to JPMorgan Chase Bank, and a non-executive director of Petropavlovsk plc. He is a member of the Board of the Russo-British Chamber of Commerce.

Sir Roderic was awarded the honour of Knight Commander in The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 1999.

Dr Sunitha Narendran

Sunitha joined Kingston University in 1999 from the National University of Singapore. Her background is in Organisational Psychology and HRM. Prior to her academic career, Sunitha worked in HRM roles in a number of multinational organisations.

Sunitha's research interests focus on the psychology of managerial decision making and cross-cultural analysis of strategic decision making. She has published in a range of academic journals, including the Journal of Trans-National Management Development, the Journal of Social Psychology. She has also reviewed articles for the Asia Pacific Journal of Management and the Asian Case Research Journal. Psyence: Psychology and Science Decision Research.

Location

All lectures will take place at the university’s Kingston Hill campus (see room details above). Timing is 6.30 pm for a 7 pm start, with refreshments provided beforehand. The seminars will be followed by a drinks/networking reception finishing at 9 pm.
