Abstract

Simon Hulme started two highly successful businesses – Frame Express a fast picture framing retailer, and Card Connection a greeting card publisher distributing through a network of over 100 franchisees. Because Simon was only 24 when he started the first business, he made numerous painful mistakes – nearly going bust in 1985 - but eventually managing to sell the business in 1989 for nearly £2m. He then went on to start Card Connection, which became one of the UK’s leading greeting card publishers and was sold to American Greetings Inc in 2008.
