Founder of mobile company Lebara is awarded honorary degree

Tuesday 13 November 2012

Born in Sri Lanka, Yoganathan Ratheesan came to UK at the age of 15 with his family.

Having completed his degree in Aerospace Engineering at Kingston, Ratheesh, as he is known, set about building his career. But he worked so hard that he nearly forgot to attend his own graduation ceremony. Receiving a last-minute call from a friend, he managed to receive his certificate and have his photograph taken in an ill-fitting gown. However, his parents were devastated not to be able to be there to witness their son graduating.

So when Ratheesh was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by the Faculty of Business and Law this month, he began his acceptance speech with an apology to his beloved parents, followed by a vote of thanks to Kingston for allowing his parents to, at last, celebrate his success.
