Biography

Brian started working at Kingston in 1990 as a research assistant in the Small Business Research Centre. Research projects there included employee relations in the small firm and the impact of the privatisation of local authority services on small firms. He has been in the Department of Leadership, HRM and Organisation since 1994, teaching organisational behaviour on undergraduate courses and employee relations on postgraduate courses.

Expertise

Current research interests include non-traditional forms of worker representation 'voice', such as campaigning and volunatary organisations. Coalition-building between organised labour and non-traditional actors. Brian has published in a range of academic journals, including Industrial Relations Journal, Human Resource Management Journal, Local Government Studies and Employee Relations. Also acted as a referee for the Journal of Management Studies and Industrial Relations Journal.

Research Interest(s)

Brian's current research interests revolve around non-traditional forms of worker representation, particularly the involvement of campaigning charities, such as the Citizens' Advice Bureaux, which formed the basis of his PhD research. Brian has published in a range of academic journals, including the Industrial Relations Journal, the Human Resource Management Journal, Local Government Studies and Employee Relations. In addition, Brian has also authored/co-authored several book chapters on a diverse range of issues including privatisation and most recently on worker representation. He has also acted as a referee for the Journal of Management Studies and the Industrial Relations Journal.
