Fatima is an Associate Professor and Associate Head for the Department of Strategy, Marketing and Innovation in the Faculty of Business and Law. She is responsible for the subject area of Strategy and Innovation, quality assurance and enhancement for the department.
Fatima has background in financial management. She joined Kingston University in 1997, moving to the Business School in 2001. She holds a PhD (International Business) from Royal Holloway, University of London. She studied in Lebanon and the UK and gained international professional experience in business education and management related areas in Lebanon, Russia, Egypt, France and the UK.
Fatima is the lead for Responsible Management and Business Ethics education within the Faculty. She represents the University at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders’ Summit. She is the Faculty link for PRME (Principle of Responsible Management Education).
She has worked as Deputy Head for the School of Strategy and Operation, Course Director for the BA (Hons) in Business Administration and BA (Hons) in Entrepreneurship and Management degrees. She was a Network Liaison Director for the Business School.
Responsible Management and Business Ethics, including developing and managing CSR modules, and coordinating research activities and student projects focusing on areas such as: Human Rights and Ethics, Corporate Governance; Green Marketing and Sustainability; Cross Cultural Evaluation Studies; Managing Change in Employment Relations; CSR and Sustainability.
Fatima is currently working on embedding the Global Compact Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into the Faculty curriculum.
Fatima’s research interests include the general area of strategy and international business. Her current focus is on resource-based and internationalization theory for studying the influence of industrial policy on location decision of firms in emerging economies, in particular, understanding the effect of the host country’s policy effectiveness on firms’ location choice. Currently her research interest is focusing on the general area of Business Ethics and Sustainability. She is working on projects on Human Rights and the multinational enterprise; the mining and oil industry impact on communities in Brazil, Nigeria, Ghana; Developing sustainability reporting framework for mining companies in Russia; and impact of ethics on decision making.
Fatima is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is a subject leader for Responsible Management and Sustainable Development, Strategic Management; Innovation and Entrepreneurship and International Business. She teaches Responsible Management to the MBA and Executive MBAs in the UK and Moscow, she also teaches Business Ethics, Managing Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development to the postgraduate MSc in International Business Management and MA Corporate Communication and Public Relations. She has developed and taught a number of modules including Business Economics, Research Methods, Culture and International Business and Start-up Venture Project. In collaboration with her subject team Fatima has recently developed a new MSc in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship.
Fatima has substantial experience in managing teams and research projects. Since the start of her academic career she has been involved in research on specialist subjects such as multinational investment motivations, software and financial industries, foreign direct investment, stress and ethics, consumer perception of value, mining industry and human rights, community relations and corporate social responsibility.
