Biography

Jo started her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers before moving into academia, first working at the University of Nottingham and then Goldsmiths, University of London. Her research is focused on the management of health and well-being at work, specifically focusing on chronic conditions and cancer; and the role of managers and leaders in supporting health at work interventions. She has led research in stress management interventions, work design and work-related ill health, and cancer and chronic ill-health at work. Her work has been funded by the HSE, CIPD and IIP, British Occupational Health Research Foundation and corporate sponsors.  

Jo combines her research with business practice and provides consultancy, guidance and training in the areas of management and health. She also delivers professional training in Occupational Test Use. 

Expertise

Jo is engaged in research and consultancy in the area of leadership and health, working in partnership with organisations to develop positive change. Her work has published a number of papers in both academic and practitioner journals, and acts as a referee for psychological journals. Her book, written with Emma Donaldson-Feilder and Rachel Lewis called 'Preventing Stress in Organizations: How to develop positive managers', published by Wiley Blackwell in 2011, won the BPS Practitioner Book of the Year Award 2013.  

Along side her research and consultancy in leadership and health, Jo has worked in the area of selection and assessment for over 15 years. She is verified to assess the BPS Test User Ability and Personality qualifications and is an independent reviewer for the BPS Psychological Testing Centre.

Teaching

Jo is the course director for the MSc Occupational and Business Psychology programme and a module leader for Career Counselling, Training and Development. Prior to joining Kingston Business School, Jo held posts at Goldsmiths, University of London, and the University of Nottingham. She has also contributed to programmes at City University London, and the University of Leicester.
