Dr. Smirti Kutaula is currently a Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Kingston Business School. Prior to joining Kingston, she worked at Birkbeck, University of London. She also served as an examiner for the MSc and PG Diploma in Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management programmes, University of London International Academy from 2011 to 2015. She has extensive practitioner experience as an HR professional in various organisations in India.
She has completed her doctoral project in examining the antecedents and outcomes of psychological contract fulfillment in the Indian context from Cardiff Business School on a funded studentship. Her doctoral paper was awarded the best proposal award at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad Doctoral Colloquium, 2011.
She received internal funding under the First Grants Scheme for £8579 for a project titled “Is psychological contract a universal or a culturally-bound concept?” in 2015-16. She also received the Distinguished Paper award in the doctoral thesis competition of the European Doctoral Programmes Association in Management and Business Administration (EDAMBA) 2016.
She co-organised a one-day developmental workshop on Sustainability and Ethical consumption with British Academy of Management and Surrey Business School, following which she is guest-editing a special issue for Management Decision, a leading scholarly management journal. Her case submission with Professor Mark Saunders (University of Birmingham) and Dr. Alvina Gillani (Surrey Business School) titled “Using storytelling to teach sampling techniques”, received the runners-up prize for Innovation in Teaching of Research Methodology Excellence Awards (15th European Conference on Research Methodology for Business Management, June 2016, Kingston, UK). Further, her paper was adjudged runners-up for the best developmental paper at the British Academy of Management Conference, Newcastle, 2016.

Smirti currently teaches Level 4 and 6 students Organisational Behaviour and Leading and Change. She is also the Course Director for BA (Hons) Human Resource Management and Course Tutor for Level 4 students, B Sc (Hons) in Business Management.
Smirti is a member of British Academy of Management, Academy of Management and Indian Academy of Management. She is currently serving as a Track Co-chair for the Human Resource Management SIG, British Academy of Management..
