Biography

Stephanie is Associate Dean, Education for the Faculty of Business & Law. She is responsible for faculty quality assurance and enhancement, learning, teaching & assessment strategy, and accreditations. She has worked as Deputy Head for the Department of Leadership, HRM & Organisation, Course Director for the MSc Business/Occupational Psychology and course director for the MSc Leadership & Management in Health. 

Stephanie has a background in IT management, with over twenty years experience in industry, including National Sales & Marketing Manager for Philips TDS, and Commercial Manager for Origin Benelux. During this time she was a Fellow of the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management. She began her career as a systems analyst and a systems engineer, and passed the Institute of Data Processing Management Parts I & II exams. She switched to psychology and after gaining her BSc took a Masters and PhD at Birkbeck, University of London, where she later lectured before moving to Kingston. A Chartered Psychologist, and full member of the British Psychological Society, she is on the register of competency for Level A (ability) and Level B (personality) tests, including the NEO, HPI and Wave assessment tools. She is also a Principal Member of the Association of Business Psychologists. She has been a non-executive Director of Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, and at Crawley Primary Care Trust.

Expertise

Stephanie is certified to test in occupational assessments (level A and B) and is a committee member of the BSI group working on the new ISO standard for outsourcing.  Since moving from Industry to academic work she has published a number of papers in both academic and practitioner journals and acts as a referee for business journals. Stephanie has written a number of book reviews, published in such journals as The Psychologist, Social Psychological Review and the Journal of Interdisciplinary Economics. She has published a book on the psychological and people management aspects of outsourcing (commissioned by Wiley-Routledge). Media experience: Radio (live and pre-recorded)

Research Interest(s)

Currently continuing research into best practice in outsourcing management, remote management of staff, technology change and leadership development in the NHS. Special interest in the use of technology in research, and during organisational change (including e-rostering); and in blended learning to enhance higher education (the latter also in collaboration with Dr. Jacqui Taylor at Bournemouth University).

Teaching

Stephanie is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  She teaches sessions on Personality and Psychometric testing on a range of programmes at both Postgraduate and Undergraduate levels, sessions on discourse analysis and research paradigms to PhD candidates, and teaches on the final year UG leadership & management module.   She has many years experience teaching on Occupational Psychology programmes, She has also developed and taught a number of postgraduate modules, including advanced research methods, new technology at work and issues in HRM, plus the undergraduate Marketing Principles in Practice and Postgraduate Advanced Research Methods in her previous position at Birkbeck, University of London, where she gained her PhD in 2003.

Stephanie has substantial experience in managing teams and projects. Since switching to academia she has been involved in research on specialist subjects such as outsourcing, technology change, work engagement, happiness and motivation, personality, leadership & management, diversity at work. Consultancy

Consulting to a range of companies and public sector organisations on various aspects of work psychology including outsourcing, staff motivation, technology related change, and managing diversity.

Memberships

She is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, and a member of the Occupational Division, and the Qualitative Research, Psychology of Education, Coaching, and Social Psychology sections. Principal Fellow of the HEA.  Full member of the Association of Business Psychologists. She is an Honorary Fellow of the National Outsourcing Association, and a British Standards Institute committee member.
