Professor and former Head of the School of Human Resource Management, Christine is now the Acting Director of the Institute of Leadership and Management in Health in the South West London Academic Network (SWAN).
Christine joined Kingston in 1989. She was a member of the Commission on Management Research, as well as the ESRC Training Board (chairing the Management and Business Studies panel in the last four recognition exercises), and also an evaluator of a number of European Union funded community projects. She was President of the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) from 1992-1995, and is a member of the Executive of the International Industrial Relations Association (IIRA), the advisory board of Warwick University's Industrial Relations Research Unit (IRRU), the editorial board of Employee Relations Review, and the Teaching Company Evaluation Panel.

Christine's current research interests cover: a range of issues associated with flexible working: its management, the quality of work and of working life, and part-time working in essential services; (ii) women manager's careers and organisational restructuring; and (iii) human resource strategy and workforce planning. Christine's work with doctoral research students includes: The Human Resource Strategies of Chinese Companies operating in the UK (Miao Zhang); The HRM practices of MNCs in Sri Lanka (Mahesha Samaratunga), The Business Case for Home Working (Michael Collins), The Business Case for Part-time Working in the Accountancy Profession (Suzanne McCrimmon), and The Changing Role of the Sergeant in the Police Service (Reg Butterfield).
