Professor David Graham QC was for many years a leading authority on insolvency law. Between 1958 and 1985, he was in Chambers that specialised in the subject and was a co-opted member of the Cork Committee on Insolvency Law and Practice , helping to draft its report, published in 1982. In August 1985 he became a partner in Cork Gully, at that time the insolvency division of Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers). Part of his work there involved lecturing on the new insolvency legislation of 1986 and in this connection he served on the Insolvency Rules Advisory Committee, that advised the DTI on insolvency procedures.

Throughout David's professional life which started in 1958 he has been associated with the leading works on bankruptcy law, such as Williams & Muir Hunter on Bankruptcy (18th and 19th Editions), Halsbury's Laws of England - Bankruptcy (4th Edition) and Longman's Insolvency, first published in response to the 1986 insolvency legislation. He was also from its inception in 1987 until 1994, chairman of the editorial board of Insolvency Intelligence.

As a member of Justice, David chaired several of its committees in the early 1990's concerned with protection for the small investor and also for the reform of insolvency law. In 1993 he became an Independent member of the Insurance Ombudsman Bureau and retained that position until 2001, when the Bureau was absorbed into the Financial Services Authority.

David retired from professional life in 1992, and has since then made a speciality of researching into the history of English and cross-border insolvency law. He lives in Stanmore, Middlesex, though he has close family connections with Philadelphia, where part of his research has been carried out. David's research interests focus on the history of insolvency law.
