Evaluation of FDI projects/strategies both for markets generally and more specifically, for attracting more FDI in Developing Economies, especially the PRC. Research into regional development in E/SE Asia, including market entry strategies. Measuring the Effectiveness of Strategic Planning systems. Developing Corporate Strategy Cases for SE Asia.
My research interests lie on the cusp between Strategic Management, International Business and O.R.. They centre round Strategic Decision Making both from the perspective of the manager/ decision maker; and also from the perspective of developing appropriate models to support such decision making activity. Recently my work has focussed on issues related particularly to business in E./S.E. Asia, including China, and to a lesser extent South Asia. This includes developing and using evaluation methods appropriate to appraisal of foreign direct investments, and issues around entry into complex markets such as China.
My consultancy experience has included: strategic and operational projects in banking; effectiveness and efficiency oriented projects for the Audit Commission (around managing the Finance function in Local Authorities, and bus fleets in PTEs); market appraisal for a the Hong Kong subsidiary of a European company; advising publishers on potential projects; and advising a small business in SE Asia. Recent consultancy has included helping a medium sized English company in the card payment/fraud prevention businesses, with its Asian market entry plans, via a DoBERR funded KTP and advising a private HE college in Hong Kong.
